Dr. Leonardo Profenna attended the University of Notre Dame for his undergraduate degree, then attended Case Western University in Cleveland, Ohio, for his M.D. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Wilford Hall Medical Center. While stationed in Aviano, Italy, he became a flight surgeon and was sent to Harvard University, where he acquired a Master of Public Health degree. He completed a second and third residency in Aerospace and Preventive Medicine at Brooks City-Base and in 2009, he graduated from the USAF Hyperbaric Fellowship at Wilford Hall.
Dr. Profenna recently retired from the United States Air Force as the Chief of Hyperbaric Medicine at San Antonio Military Medical Center. Throughout his military career, he has demonstrated the highest standards of care during his two deployments to Kuwait, two to Iraq, and one to Haiti as the Chief of Medical Operations at the Haiti airport after the 2010 earthquake. In addition to experience gained practicing with the military in several European countries, Dr. Profenna is a world-class advanced wound care physician who has over 750 flying hours in 17 different aircraft and over 150 combat flying hours under his belt.
